TV over Fibre (Fibre IRS or FIRS)

As the underlying technology matures, it is becoming ever more attractive to design TV & Satellite distribution systems with fibre rather than coax. Leading TV signal equipment manufacturer Global Invacom and Fracarro now offer a range of FIRS components.

Fibre provides many advantages for TV distribution, including:

Significantly smaller cables. One 12-core fibre cable can provide the equivalent of 49 coax cables! This reduces installation costs, space requirements and helps the environment.

Transmission over much longer distances, increasing the number of homes that that be connected to one set of TV Aerials and Satellite dishes.

Integration with other services (data services can share the same cable).

Higher Reliability.

Energy Saving. Most of the fibre equipment consists of passive optical splitters, replacing the need for active equipment in the building risers.

With over 25 years of installing high performance fibre infrastructure for the data industry and more than 10 years designing and building TV distribution systems, Able is ideally positioned to fully exploit this technology.

Able have installed a FIRS at a number of luxury housing developments (over 500 luxury homes) and has also proposed this technology in a variety of new high-end projects in London.

Able are developing the template for a Flexible FIRS, which for the first time will allow property developers to cost effectively offer a broad range of international satellite options to their tenants. We are expecting to formally announce this shortly.
